Maternity Photography Trends that are here to stay!

by Simcoe County Maternity Photographer, Bobbi-Jo Stuart

Documenting your pregnancy is always a great idea. Even if you are not feeling the best during your pregnancy, there may be a time in the future when you will wish you had some portraits taken. I know as a mother of four, I regret not taking professional photos after my first baby! I thought I only needed them once but I was wrong. (and sad about it now)

Maybe not all of these ideas will resonate with you, but here at Love Bee Studios we want to help you get creative, but most of all - see yourself as ART.

Here are some of my favourite “trends” in maternity photography right now in 2024, but I do not think any of them are going anywhere! Personally, I would not call any of these “trendy” but classic, artistic and made to be displayed proudly on your walls for years to come!

1. Black and White

Black and White Photography is classic. Removing the colour from an image changes the colour story and allows you to just FEEL the image. Black and White Maternity images will stay classic forever and many client’s choose to hang them up large on the wall!

2. Fine Art Nude (or implied nude)

Going fully nude for your maternity images may seem nerve wracking but there are ways to fake it and only be slightly nude. Or take a breath and just go for it! There is nothing more beautiful than a pregnant woman, and doing a nude or semi-nude photo shoot will exude confidence.

3. Boudoir

The word BOUDOIR may make you think of words like sexy, lingerie, intimate - but boudoir can also be glam, fine art or fashion. Boudoir can mean so many things and pregnant IS an intimate time in your time. So make your images intimate and sensual. Go for it! Use fabrics like lace, sheer sheets, lingerie to make your images feel intimate, feminine and beautiful.

4. Wrapped up in your partner or children

As much as I love photographing women alone and letting them enjoy this experience of feeling beautiful while pregnant, I always want them to bring along their family for a few images as well! You did create this baby and life together, right!? SO bring along your partner and let him or her join in the fun and create some beautiful and intimate maternity images to show that baby one day!

5. Romantic Vibes

There is nothing more feminine than being pregnant so bring in that feminine energy with a light flowing dress, soft curls and some backlight! So romantic, soft and looks gorgeous printed huge on acrylic or a fine art paper

6. Classic denim

There is nothing more classic than a great pair of jeans! Denim and a cute bralette, or even topless with jeans. Classic, timeless and gorgeous! The undone jeans look is not going anywhere.
