Introducing Wild Hearts | Beauty & Boudoir
I have been photographing humans “professionally” for ten years now. TEN! I still remember the very first person, a stranger, who asked me to photograph their newborn, and they were going to pay me! I was afraid, nervous, but did a ton of research and jumped in.
I recently realized that my photography career has been a close parallel with my own life. I began photographing babies and families with small children, while I myself had small children (and had 2 more later!). Then I started realizing how tiring it could be at home with four kids, long days and longer nights, and somehow I jumped into photographing weddings. I used to joke with clients that I loved shooting weddings because it was a day away from the chaos at home. I don’t think I was totally joking :) But I love STORIES. I love the human face. I love expression and real unedited documentary type images so weddings were the perfect place to be an outsider, looking in.
I STILL love weddings and still have several to photograph this year. And because I love my couples soooo much, I will likely to say yes to a few more each year - because your best friends and family members are like my friends and family now too, and how do you say no? (I am just being very choosy with the amount I take on!)
Back to the story - as my kids started getting older, and participating in a lot of weekend activities - it has become harder to leave every weekend. My husband does appreciate me home now and then, and I do LOVE spending time with my family obviously. I found over the pandemic that I was branching out - photographing more studio work, more portraits, and more women in general. And FELL IN LOVE.
Off and on for years I have dabbled in portraiture of women - beauty style, boudoir, maternity, motherhood images - and every single time my heart left so full and grateful.
Since turning 40 I have found myself in this new headspace - more clear of what I desire, what I can live without, what I allow into my space and mind. And I was seeing that with friends as well. I started noticing how my tween daughter was speaking about herself as well. How her friends speak. And it made me realize even more that us women have a HUGE responsibility to take care of ourselves so we can teach the next generation of girls to do the same. We need to show them how to love themselves. How to RESPECT each other and raise other girls and women up. How to be strong, proud and how to do so without feeling shame or guilt or judgement. We need to stick together!
Over the last few years I have discovered that I LOVE photographing women. I LOVE helping women feel confident and proud. I LOVE showing a woman the beauty that we all see, but she will pick apart. I love the light as it falls on your curves. I love the glow when you see an image of yourself. A little surprised but then the realization that YES, YOU ARE THIS BEAUTIFUL!
So this is my new journey. And where I will be staying until I retire my camera. Hopefully to one of my daughters, so they empowerment movement can continue!
I am SO excited for whats to come, and for the women I will have the honour to photograph. All women, all shapes, sizes, colours, backgrounds. All women are welcome here.
And to CELEBRATE this new part of my journey - I am offering 2 for 1 sessions until February 14th! Details and booking can be found here
I am looking forward to seeing you soon!
